Dine for Democracy 2020 is a campaign of collective action that brings chefs, restaurants, bakers and diners together to uplift the cause of voter engagement and voting rights across the United States.

HOW IT WORKS

Our campaign supports the Dine for Democracy Voting Fund set up to benefit 5 voting organizations led by youth and communities of color working in key states to get-out-the-vote across the country. This is a big group effort and we’re aiming to raise $200,000 to divide evenly between the 5 groups by the end of the campaign. (Link above to learn about the groups in the fund).

Official event dates take place on First Fridays of the month, now until the election.
Remaining dates are: AUGUST 7 * SEPTEMBER 4 * OCTOBER 2 *

On these dates, we work to boost donations to the fund.

There are a few different ways supporters can participate in Dine for Democracy:

1. DINE with Dine for Democracy chefs and restaurants + DONATE to our fund that same day.
2. Host a Dine for Democracy Dinner Party (https://dinefordemocracy.com/share)
3. Participate in a Dine for Democracy raffle.
4. Take a virtual cooking class to support our fund.

NOTE: Because of the impacts of the pandemic, donations by Dine for Democracy chefs and restaurants are not required to participate, but are gratefully accepted and encouraged if you’re able. Mainly, we ask that you promote the campaign and help us drive donations to our fund.

WHAT WE ASK FROM YOU

In a nutshell, we ask participating chefs and restaurants to promote the project and help us drive donations to our fund for voting organizations throughout the campaign.

• First, SIGN UP!

• Follow us on Instagram. We will follow you back.

• Cross-promote the project. Use the RESTAURANT TOOLKIT (below) as a resource.

  • Post and share about your participation in Dine For Democracy after signing up.

  • On event days, post again.

• Help us drive donations to the Dine for Democracy voting fund - this is key!

  • Consider offering a special Dine for Democracy meal, creating a Dine for Democracy cocktail or creating a special event or raffle to boost donations.

  • Consider adding a Dine for Democracy donate button to on your website. We can help with this.

  • Encourage customers to make donations. (We provide postcards for to-go boxes and graphics to share on social media).

• If you’re able, make a donation in any amount to our Voting Fund during the campaign (Optional).

• Spread the word to other restaurants, food writers or anyone else in your circle who might be interested in the project!

WHAT WE PROVIDE

• A new opportunity for you to have a positive impact on voting rights and the election, while doing what you already do best!

• Promotion of your participation in the project on our website, media outreach and social channels.

• Helpful tools to participate, infographics to share, a flyer for your window and Dine for Democracy informational postcards for to-go boxes.

FOR INDEPENDENT CHEFS AND BAKERS: You are welcome to join us! Think about offering small batch meals or treats on event dates. You have full control over your offerings and ordering system. We just ask that you promote the project. (It’s even ok if you can’t offer pick up on specific event days - we can be flexible! That goes for restaurants too.)

FOR CHEFS OFFERING COOKING CLASES: This is a new part of our campaign! Use the sign up sheet above to sign up to offer classes. When cooking instructors offer to donate a percentage of class fees, our fundraiser becomes that much stronger!
